Follow the Rabbit-Proof Fence

- Find articles that are thematically relevant to the book you chose in The New Yorker, The Atlantic, The New York Times or similarly reputable news outlets. Articles from random websites are not acceptable. Reputable news outlets set standards that writers must meet and the articles undergo thorough review processes before they are published. If you are unsure about an article, send it to me and I will let you know whether or not it is suitable.
- Topic: Analyze selected work of non-fiction (note: only fictional books are “novels”) and the articles you’ve found using the themes of power, labor, and beliefs. Provide a bibliography for the articles you’ve used in either MLA or Chicago format. Do not consult or include information from sources other than those found in your bibliography.
- In examining the role of the individual, the community and the global world, this course will focus on three topic areas: 1. the meaning of labor and work (free/unfree, sustainable/unsustainable, access to economic opportunity, degree of available support systems to protect workers); 2. the role of belief structures in shaping actions and worldviews (religion, philosophy, science, ideology); and the dynamics of power (who has access to power and who doesn?t, based on gender, socio-economic class, race, religion, sexuality, ethno-linguistic identity, age, education, etc).
