Ethnicity and Crisis Response

After you have completed the “Assessing the Multicultural Competence of School Counselors: A Checklist,” analyze the results and discuss how what you learned might impact your ability to engage in effective crisis response work.

Now, imagine you are a brand new school counselor and one of your students tells you her mother passed away about a month ago and she is struggling with the loss. Utilizing information from your readings about culturally effective or sensitive helping, compare and contrast your response with students from two different ethnicities. For example, if the student is Latino, how would your response be similar and different to the response offered to a student who is African American, Asian, Caucasian, et cetera.
