The focus of this Seminar is to explore physical and cognitive changes in adolescence, as well as identity development and risky behavior in this developmental stage. You will also review concepts covered in Chapters 9 and 10 of your textbook including the theorists Piaget and Erikson, and the role of peers, parents, and school in the development of adolescents.

Please come to the Seminar prepared to discuss the following:

  1. Explain the physical development that occurs during adolescents. Discriminate between positive and negative effects of physical development on individuals.
  2. Identify the cognitive changes that occur during adolescence and discuss how they contribute to some of the other components of this developmental stage, including peer relationships and identity development.
  3. Evaluate the role of the media with regard to adolescent development, including their social identity.
