Theme: Human beings struggle through any means to achieve freedom in the different aspects of life.

Thesis Statement: The two stories highlight the desperate search for freedom through teamwork and coordination, extreme measures, and a constant search for the eventual freedom required.

The literary element: Plot

The outline Introduction First point about the theme and the literary element: consistent struggle in the plot. Text #1’s perspective on/treatment of that theme (The Open Boat): dedicated, determined, cooperative partners. Text#2’s perspective on/treatment of that theme (A Jury of Her Peers): consistent, dedicated, cooperative, women in the struggle. Text #1’s plot shows a consistent and collaborative struggle against nature as do the women in Text#2’s plot in the struggle against confinement and gender bias. The constant struggle for freedom, coordination, and teamwork, and the extreme measures taken in both stories denote similarities. Humanity will always strive to survive through taking all measures to achieve their freedom regardless the setting.
