Instructions:
You will choose a cultural group in Australian society (e.g. young people, GLTBI people, women) and analyse how this group is represented using at least three media texts as examples. In your essay you will identify the key discourses that exist in the representations and discuss how these relate to broader ideological perspectives.
Your essay must compare and contrast your three chosen texts, examining how they are indicative (or not) of changes to these cultural groups have been constructed in the media. The purpose of this essay is to demonstrate your understanding of the KCB101 unit content,and, as such, you should aim to draw upon the concepts introduced in the readings and lecturesthroughout the semester.
Further information: Assignment must be written and organised in standard academic essay style. You may use first person voice, but only do so sparingly. The essay must be accompanied by a bibliography/reference list. You should follow the Harvard style as specified on the QUT cite|writewebsite in formatting citations references (see: www.citewrite.qut.edu.au). Essay must be 1.5 or double spaced. Assignments must be submitted electronically via Blackboard. Any assignment submitted after the due date without an approved extension will not be marked.
